Machu Picchu Tour with Premium Trains – Itinerary

Departure from Cusco and transfer to the train station

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and take you by shared transportation to the train station. Depending on the train you choose, you’ll be taken to the corresponding station.

Premium train journey to Aguas Calientes

When you choose any of the premium train options, you’ll enjoy enhanced comfort and a variety of onboard experiences, such as snacks, live entertainment, or dining service, depending on the category.

Arrival in Aguas Calientes and bus to Machu Picchu

Upon arrival at the Aguas Calientes train station, a Guru Explorers representative will give you all the details you need to board the bus to Machu Picchu, including where to meet your guide.

You’ll then head to the boarding area on your own, where you’ll line up to take the bus up to the entrance of the citadel.

Guided tour of Machu Picchu – Circuit 2

At the entrance to Machu Picchu or at a previously arranged meeting point, you’ll meet your professional guide and group to begin the Circuit 2 tour.

Over the course of 2 to 2.5 hours, you’ll learn about the history, architecture, and main sectors of the citadel, with time to take the classic photo.

Shared guided tours are available in Spanish throughout the day (from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). English tours are available at 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. If you prefer a different time or language, you can request a private guided service as an additional option.

The guided service takes place exclusively within the Machu Picchu archaeological site, for both shared and private tours.

Return to Aguas Calientes

After the tour, you’ll take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Depending on your train schedule, you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch or explore the town before your return.

Return train journey

You’ll then board your chosen premium train for the return, where you’ll continue enjoying the comfort and onboard experiences depending on the service selected.

Transfer to Cusco and hotel drop-off

After disembarking the train, you’ll board shared transportation back to Cusco, where our team will be waiting to take you comfortably to your hotel in the historic center.

If you prefer a more personalized experience, you can request a private transfer upgrade from the train station to your hotel in Cusco.

  • Briefing provided one day before your tour
  • Entrance ticket to Machu Picchu (Circuit 2). If Circuit 2 is not available, an additional cost may apply depending on the type of entry ticket and whether a private guide is required
  • Shared guided tour with a professional English or Spanish speaking guide on Circuit 2 (for Portuguese or other languages, please check availability)
  • All transportation throughout the tour:
    • Pickup from your hotel in Cusco’s historic center. If the vehicle cannot access your hotel directly due to traffic restrictions or narrow streets, a nearby pickup point will be arranged. For accommodations outside the historic center, a meeting point can be arranged or an additional transfer can be arranged at an additional cost
    • Round-trip shared transportation between Cusco and the train station (private transfer upgrade available)
    • Round-trip Vistadome train ticket (other premium train options available at an additional cost)
    • Round-trip bus ticket between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu
    • Return transfer to your hotel in Cusco’s historic center

The price of the excursion to Machu Picchu does not include:

  • Transportation from hotels located outside the city of Cusco

  • Meals not specified in the itinerary
  • Additional Machu Picchu entry tickets not mentioned, such as Circuit 3 with Huayna Picchu or Circuit 1 with Machu Picchu Mountain
  • Guide assistance during transfers, in the town of Aguas Calientes, or in activities outside the archaeological site. Guiding services are provided exclusively within the Machu Picchu ruins on Circuit 2. If you would like guide assistance on additional routes, you can request this service as an add-on at the time of booking

What to bring to the Machu Picchu tour?

  • We recommend bringing: comfortable footwear (high heels are not allowed in the citadel), lightweight clothing, a hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, and rain gear (especially from November to April).
  • Insect repellent (important in Machu Picchu)
  • Passport or ID (must match your booking information)
  • Travel insurance (recommended)
  • Cash in local currency. In Peru, there is usually a fee to use public restrooms, so we recommend carrying coins or small bills for this purpose.

  • The type of circuit for the entry ticket to Machu Picchu included in this tour is subject to availability.
  • The itinerary times may vary according to the selected train schedules.
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Due to environmental, climatic or other factors beyond our control, the itinerary of the trip may vary. If so, we will notify you in a timely manner.
  • Guru Explorers value your time and strive to respect the tour schedule; however, it may vary for reasons beyond our control (weather, natural disasters, field conditions, among other demonstrable reasons). We will do our best to offer efficient options and solutions for your enjoyment.
  • Remember that, since these are outdoor activities, the natural features of the landscape may vary depending on weather conditions and the natural daylight. Each visit is an authentic experience, where nature reveals itself in unique and unrepeatable ways.

Not recommended for:

  • Wheelchair users.

According to Peruvian regulations, foreign tourists may be exempt from the local tax IGV (VAT). As a formal and registered travel agency, we are required to submit to the local authorities a copy of the document you used to enter the country, as well as your date of entry.

For this reason, a few days before your arrival, we will contact you to request a photo of that document and ask you to let us know the date you entered Peru. If we do not receive this information, we will be required to add the 18% corresponding to the IGV tax.

  • Between 4 and 7 days notice, 70% reimbursement.
  • More than 7 days, 90% will be reimbursed.

Date changes:

  • Fees applied for date change in private tours:
  • There will be no extra charge if notified more than 5 days in advance.
  • If notified between 3 and 5 days in advance, an additional charge of 20% will apply.
  • If notified 2 days or less in advance, it will not be possible to make the change and will not be subject to reimbursement.
  • There will be no refund in case of delayed flights, train delays, bad weather or other external factors.

Force Majeure Policy:

  • Guru Explorers values your time and strives to follow the itinerary. However, it may be affected by force majeure events such as weather, rain, natural disasters, protests, roadblocks, or other circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, no refunds or compensations will be issued, as these are unforeseeable and unavoidable situations. Nevertheless, we will do our best to offer alternatives and efficient solutions for your enjoyment. Any additional costs resulting from changes or alternative activities will be the responsibility of the client and not of Guru Explorers.
