Machu Picchu Tour Itinerary:

04:00 – 13:00: Pick up from hotel – Transport to Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

After confirming your reservation with Guru Explorers, we take care of all your train tickets and Machu Picchu entry tickets. Based on availability, we tailor the itinerary to the schedule that best fits your preferences.

Your day begins with pickup from your hotel in shared transportation, followed by a transfer to the train station. From there, you’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, enjoying a scenic journey through the Sacred Valley.

Upon arrival at the Aguas Calientes station, a Guru Explorers representative will be waiting for you to explain how to board the tourist bus to Machu Picchu, as well as your meeting point with the guide.

With this information, you will head to the boarding area on your own, where you’ll line up to board the bus to the sanctuary entrance.

Private Guided Tour in Machu Picchu

Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, you’ll meet your professional guide.

During the guided tour, you’ll explore the main sectors of the citadel, including temples, stairways, plazas, and pathways, as well as iconic landmarks such as the Intihuatana.

13:00 – 21:00: Lunch – Return to Cusco

After your visit to Machu Picchu, you’ll say goodbye to your guide and take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes.

Depending on your entry time, you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch either before or after the guided tour.

Afterward, you’ll board the return train to Ollantaytambo. From there, you’ll continue your journey by shared transportation to Cusco. Upon arrival, our driver will be waiting to take you directly to your hotel in the historic center, comfortably and safely.

If you choose private transportation from Ollantaytambo, your return will be direct to your hotel in Cusco without using shared transportation.

Remember that you can upgrade your train service for both the outbound and return journeys. You can also arrange a customized itinerary, such as spending a night in Aguas Calientes or Ollantaytambo, depending on your preferences.

    • Round-trip bus tickets between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu

Price of the Machu Picchu Tour excludes:

  • Transfers from hotels outside Cusco’s historic center. If you are staying outside this area, a meeting point can be arranged or an additional transfer can be booked for an extra fee.

  • Guide accompaniment is not included during transfers, in Aguas Calientes, or for activities outside the archaeological site.  What to Bring to the Machu Picchu Tour?

  • Comfortable sneakers with non-slip soles or hiking shoes (high heels and footwear with rigid, thick, or platform soles are not allowed at Machu Picchu), lightweight clothing, a hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, and rain gear (especially from November to April). Keep in mind that Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes are located at approximately 2,000 m (6,561 ft) above sea level, and the climate varies depending on the time of year.
  • Insect repellent (important in Machu Picchu)
  • Passport or ID (must match the details on your reservation)
  • Travel insurance (recommended)
  • Cash (local currency). In Peru, there is usually a fee to use public restrooms, so we recommend bringing coins or small bills for these situations.

What considerations you should have when taking the Machu Picchu Tour:

  • You must choose the entrance tickets to Machu Picchu in the purchase process.
  • The train schedule and access to Machu Picchu may vary depending on availability. We recommend making reservations as far in advance as possible.
  • Large backpacks, suitcases, and bags are not allowed on the train. Only small bags or backpacks up to 8 kg are permitted. Please check available luggage storage options.
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Due to environmental, climatic or other factors, beyond our control, the travel itinerary may vary. If so, it will be notified promptly.
  • Remember that, since these are outdoor activities, the natural features of the landscape may vary depending on weather conditions and the natural daylight. Each visit is an authentic experience, where nature reveals itself in unique and unrepeatable ways.

Not allowed:

  • Pets.
  • Smoking.
  • Large suitcases or bags.

Not recommended for:

  • People in wheelchairs.

According to Peruvian regulations, foreign tourists may be exempt from the local tax IGV (VAT). As a formal and registered travel agency, we are required to submit to the local authorities a copy of the document you used to enter the country, as well as your date of entry.

For this reason, a few days before your arrival, we will contact you to request a photo of that document and ask you to let us know the date you entered Peru. If we do not receive this information, we will be required to add the 18% corresponding to the IGV tax.

Cancellation Policies:

  • Take the following into account:
    • The Ministry of Culture does not make refunds for the entrance to Machu Picchu, Montaña Machu Picchu or Montaña Huaynapicchu.
    • The train company charges an administrative fee of 10% for cancellations.
  • Cancellations within 11 days or more in advance, a penalty of 90 USD per person will be charged, which includes administrative concepts, entrance tickets to Machu Picchu and train company fee.
  • Cancellations with 4 to 10 days in advance, will receive 50% of the amount paid.
  • Cancellations with 3 days or less in advance, there will be no refund.
  • There are no refunds for entrances to Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain.

Date changes:

  • Take the following into account:
    • Date changes are subject to the availability of train tickets and entrance to Machu Picchu.
    • Price difference will be charged for train tickets, if applicable. (Guru Explorers does its best to avoid increases)
    • In the event of the new date of the tour to Machu Picchu is in a different year from the original, the ticket will be lost and an additional 50 USD per person will be charged to buy a new one.
  • For changes of dates notified 11 days or more in advance, an additional charge of 15% will apply, which includes change fee for the entrance to Machu Picchu and the train company.
  • For changes of dates notified 4 to 10 days or more in advance, an additional charge of 25% will apply, which includes a change fee for the entrance to Machu Picchu and the train company.
  • It will not be possible to make date changes 3 days or less in advance.
  • There will be no refund in case of delayed flights, train delays, bad weather or other external factors.

Force Majeure Policy

  • Guru Explorers values your time and makes every effort to follow the itinerary. However, it may be affected by force majeure events such as weather conditions, rain, natural disasters, protests, roadblocks, or other circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, no refunds or compensation will be provided, as these are unforeseeable and unavoidable situations. Nonetheless, we will do everything possible to offer efficient alternatives and solutions for your enjoyment. Any additional costs resulting from changes or alternative activities will be the responsibility of the client and not Guru Explorers.
