The Salinas Lagoon is an important body of water located in southern Peru, constituting part of the Natural Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca. This site is known for the sighting of many native species that have habitat in this reserve. Among them, you can find migratory birds and camelids such as alpacas, vicuñas or llamas.

On this trip you will also discover incredible viewpoints towards the volcanoes that surround the landscape and natural hot springs whose pools are considered medicinal. The town of Chiguata will be another attraction, whose colonial architecture and imposing buildings will provide excellent postcards to take pictures.

Salinas Lagoon Tour Itinerary

06:15 – 07:30 AM: Pick up from hotels in Arequipa downtown

07:30 - 10:00 AM: Excursions and Breakfast

We will then head to the Chiguata Volcanoes Viewpoint and the town of Chiguata. We will make excursions to the main square of Chiguata, Espiritu Santo Church and then enjoy a well-deserved traditional breakfast.

Then we will continue our way and in a journey of approximately one hour, we will make a stop at Alto Simbral.

10:0 AM - 11:00 AM: Visit to the Salinas Lagoon

Our visit to the lagoon will take about an hour and a half. Here we will take the opportunity to visit its viewpoints, bird watching, vicuñas, llamas and alpacas, as well as its incredible water mirrors.

In dry season (April to December) we can have the opportunity to visit the salt extraction centers where you can get spectacular photographs.

11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Visit to Lojen Minivolcano and Lojen Hot Springs

After visiting these incredible viewpoints, we will visit the Lojen Minivolcano and then the medicinal hot springs to relax our muscles before continuing on our way.

01:00 - 04:00 PM: Return to Chiguata, lunch and return to Arequipa.

After enjoying a relaxing bath, we will go to Chiguata to enjoy an exquisite regional lunch and then return to the Plaza de Armas around 4:00 PM.

  • It is recommended to bring: comfortable shoes, light clothing, hat, wool cap, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, rain gear (especially in November - April).

  • Between 4 and 7 days of notification, 70% is refunded.
  • More than 7 days, 90% is refunded.

Date changes:

  • Rates applied for change of date in group tours:
    • There will be no extra charge if you notify more than 5 days in advance.
    • If notified between 3 and 5 days in advance, an additional charge of 20% will apply.
    • If you notify within 2 days or less in advance, it will not be possible to make the change and it will not be subject to a refund.
  • Subject to availability.
  • There will be no refund in case of delayed flights, train delays, bad weather or other external factors.
