Amazing Amazon Tour Itinerary:
DAY 1:
10:00 Iquitos – Monkey Island – Lodge
The three-day adventure begins when our guide picks you up from the International Airport or the city of Iquitos for the transfer to Bellavista Port. From there, you board a fast boat and navigate the Amazon River. At one point, you can appreciate the merging of the Amazon River with the Nanay River, where the waters create a contrast of light and dark brown, surrounded by lush green wetlands.
The first stop will be a wildlife refuge, Monkey Island, where you will learn about the reintegration process of primates into their natural habitat and have the chance to interact with species such as the Peresso, Pichico, Howler monkey, Spider monkey, Tocón, and others. In times when the river level is normal, the boat takes passengers to the dock on Monkey Island. When the river is low, you will have to walk 30 minutes one way to the monkey island, and 30 minutes back to the boat.
You will return to the boat to reach the lodge, where you will be welcomed with a drink and enjoy lunch. After some rest, the first excursion takes you to the Yamono Reserve, where you will identify various animal species, giant trees, and the unique flora of the Amazon jungle.
On the way back, you will witness the unparalleled sunset over the jungle. At night, enjoy a boat ride along one of the Amazon River’s tributaries. In the absence of city lights, you will see a magnificent sky filled with stars, and if the weather allows, you may be able to spot constellations and shooting stars.
Upon arrival at the Lodge, you can relax in the pools, hammocks, or open areas before enjoying dinner and resting.
DAY 2:
Amazon Community – Pink Dolphins – Piranha Fishing – Night Walk
We always recommend waking up early to admire the Amazon sunrise. Join us for a tour to observe the diverse tropical birds near the lodge, followed by breakfast and a visit to the Yaguas community, known for their skills as hunters. Here, you will learn one of their fishing techniques, which you can later try yourself on one of the Amazon River’s tributaries by fishing for piranhas.
Along the way, we will look for pink dolphins in the Amazon River. Dolphin sightings occur in their natural habitat, therefore, we cannot guarantee an exact number of dolphins to see. However, in 80% of cases the sighting is positive. We appreciate your understanding of the nature of this activity. In times where the river level is normal, the sighting is done from the boat. When the river is low, you will have to walk 30 minutes one way to the dolphin watching area, and 30 minutes back to the boat.
After returning to the Lodge, you’ll enjoy lunch.
In the evening, take a walk around the Lodge, appreciating the night and the changing jungle atmosphere, where you might spot nocturnal animals and enjoy the magical sounds and charm of the place.
Return to the Lodge to have dinner and rest comfortably.
DAY 3:
Lodge – Victoria Regia – Iquitos
After breakfast, enjoy a wonderful tour to observe the queen of the aquatic lilies, Victoria Amazonica, also known as Victoria Regia or water lilies. These lilies adorn the shallow waters of the Amazon River, and their flowers can grow up to 40 cm in size. There are many fascinating details about this plant that you will want to learn.
Return to the Lodge for lunch before transferring to the International Airport of Iquitos.
