Palomino Island and swimming with sea lions Tour Itinerary:

9:45 – 10:30 Meeting point and boat

The adventure starts at 10:00 am from the meeting point (Callao) where the group will receive instructions and prepare for port control and subsequent boarding at the dock, around 10:30.

10:30 Start of the tour to the islands

Once on the boat, you will leave for the islands that surround the province of Callao: San Lorenzo, El Frontón (old prison), El Camotal and Isla Cavinzas, which is known for its guanera wealth (fertilizer or mineral formed by excrement of birds).

In the place you can see the diversity of birds and marine animals, such as seagulls, boobies, guanayes, and pelicans among the rock formations.

11:30 Swim with Sea lions

After arriving at Palomino Island, you will have the opportunity to swim with sea lions in their natural habitat, for approximately half an hour. You can also choose a few minutes of relaxation on the boat while you admire the landscape and marine fauna.

12:30 Return

After experiencing contact with nature; You return to the dock, arriving around 1:00 p.m. You can have lunch at La Punta, which has excellent restaurant alternatives, representative of the best typical dishes of Peruvian food.

According to Peruvian regulations, foreign tourists may be exempt from the local tax IGV (VAT). As a formal and registered travel agency, we are required to submit to the local authorities a copy of the document you used to enter the country, as well as your date of entry. For this reason, a few days before your arrival, we will contact you to request a photo of that document and ask you to let us know the date you entered Peru. If we do not receive this information, we will be required to add the 18% corresponding to the IGV tax.

Is it safe to swim with sea lions?

Yes, absolutely. They are curious but harmless. The Tour to Palomino Island + Swimming with Sea Lions is carried out with expert guides who supervise at all times. You just need to respect their space and enjoy a unique experience in contact with nature.

 

How far is the island from the port?

About 40 minutes by speedboat from Callao. Along the way, you can observe other islands and marine wildlife, which makes the journey part of the adventure.

Can I stay on the boat if I don’t want to swim?

Of course, it’s not mandatory to get into the water. From the boat, you’ll have a privileged view of the sea lions and can enjoy the natural surroundings without swimming.

How much time do I actually spend swimming with the sea lions?

The swim lasts about 30 minutes, divided into two short immersion sessions. This allows you to interact with the sea lions’ curiosity without overexerting yourself.

Can I bring my own underwater camera or use snorkel gear?

Yes, you can bring your GoPro or a waterproof phone case. A floating handle is recommended for safety. Snorkel gear is optional, but the activity is done without fins to avoid disturbing the animals’ natural behavior.

What is the minimum age and conditions for children?

The minimum recommended age is 7 years old. All minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult who also enters the water. Life jackets are included for extra safety.

What other marine species or birds can I photograph during the trip?

In addition to sea lions, you may spot pelicans, cormorants, and seagulls. With some luck, dolphins or even Humboldt penguins can also be seen during certain seasons.
