In order to take a very interesting tour of the city we thought of this City Tour Arequipa + Santa Catalina Monastery + Viewpoints that will take you to explore its main attractions.

Starting with the viewpoints of Carmen Alto and Yanahuara, from where you will get wonderful views.

Continuing with a tour of the city, we will appreciate the San Lázaro neighborhood, Fundo el Fierro Artisan Center, San Francisco Square, Mario Vargas Llosa Library.

On this tour we cannot miss a visit to one of the most beautiful squares in Peru, the Main Square from Arequipa. And being there, we will also get to know the Church of the Company of Jesus, a Jesuit construction whose beautiful and ornate facade is a clear example of the Andean baroque style.

Then, as another example of colonial architecture, we will also have the pleasure of visiting the Tristán del Pozo mansion.

Itinerary of the City Tour Arequipa + Santa Catalina Monastery (Includes Viewpoints):

The tour begins at 8:30 a.m. when our transportation picks up passengers from the hotel. (The schedule can be adjusted to the passengers)*

The first place to visit will be the Carmen Alto Viewpoint, from where we can get a wonderful view of the city, framed by the Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu volcanoes. Also from here you can see an incomparable landscape of the fields that still preserve Inca agricultural terraces and of course, the Chili River.

Then, we will go to the Yanahuara district, which also has an emblematic viewpoint to appreciate beautiful postcards of the landscape. But what stands out most about this viewpoint are its 9 arches built in white ashlar, on which popular phrases and quotes from illustrious people inspired by the philosophy of life of the Arequipa settler were engraved.

Being in the district of Yanahuara, we will visit its beautiful main square and here we will appreciate the small parish of San Juan Bautista de Yanahuara, which has a beautiful baroque style facade, built in 1750.

Afterward, the transportation will drop us off at the San Lázaro neighborhood to begin our walking tour of important points in the city, such as Fundo el Fierro Artisan Center, San Francisco Square, Mario Vargas Llosa Library, and the Andean Sanctuaries Museum (Juanita mummy).

Next, we will head to the Plaza de Armas to explore it, and then we will visit the Church of the Company of Jesus, which is located next to the square.

Inside the church, we will visit its cloisters, which were built in the 18th century.

Then, we will visit the Tristán del Pozo mansion, a colonial mansion built in 1738 and whose facade is distinguished for being one of the greatest exponents of typical Arequipa ornamentation.

The last point to visit on the tour is the Santa Catalina Monastery, which is located in the historic center of the city.

Here we can appreciate four centuries of Arequipa architecture. Inside the monastery we will find cloisters, cells, small internal streets full of flowers, sitting and resting places and walls painted with fresh dyes.

The tour will end at approximately at 1:00 p.m. in the historic center. 

Places to visit by tourist transportation: Carmen Alto Viewpoint, Mundo Alpaca, Yanahuara Square and Viewpoint. 

Places to visit on foot: San Lázaro neighborhood, Fundo El Fierro, San Francisco Square, Mario Vargas Llosa Library, Tristán del Pozo Manor House, Main Square, exterior of the Cathedral, Cloisters and Church of the Company, and Santa Catalina Monastery.

*Note: The order of the attractions to be visited may vary. The tour can be conducted at different times upon passengers’ request. This itinerary is designed to take place between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. If passengers wish to do it at another time, they should consider that some sites may be closed or that not all mentioned attractions may be visited. The cost of the tour does not change if passengers make schedule changes and visit fewer attractions.
