Itinerary of the Tambopata Tour
DAY 1 : Puerto Maldonado – Lodge
After receiving you at the Puerto Maldonado Airport, we will welcome you with a refreshing tropical juice. Here begins the land trip for 2 hours to the Wasai Tambopata lodge, a mostly paved path to a rustic road that takes you, between colonist farms and primary forests, to the Tambopata River.
From this place you embark, downstream for about 20 minutes, heading to the WASAI Tambopata Lodge; a tour in which you see the exuberant vegetation; some parrots, macaws, and hopefully you will have the first sighting of capybaras, the largest rodents in the world, as well as otters, alligators and other wild animals.
You arrive at the lodge to enjoy an interesting night walk in which you get to know the ecosystems of the tropical jungle and you can already observe multiple insects, bats, frogs and perhaps a mammal.
Enjoy the delicious dinner and rest with the night sounds of nature.
DAY 2 : Lodge – Macaw Clay Lick
You wake up very early, because from 5:00 am you can see the arrival of birds in flocks from the Tambopata River to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho”, the largest in the world.
At 5:30 the boat leaves from the lodge heading to this place in the National Reserve; a cliff of clay rich in nutrients, which make up a natural sanctuary for macaws, parrots and parakeets, which arrive daily to eat, offering one of the most attractive, colorful and sonorous spectacles of wildlife.
At the foot of the cliff you can enjoy breakfast while also observing the habitat of animal and plant species, such as capybaras, monkeys, river turtles, tapirs and sloths.
On the way back, enjoy one of the routes with the greatest option to see wild animals such as the puma and the jaguar; also the otter and the river wolf; among other species of birds, reptiles and mammals.
Once you are at the lodge, you have several options to wait for lunch: rest in the hammocks, swim in the river, kayak or fish.
After lunch, you do an ethnobotanical hike into the rainforest; for the recognition of medicinal plants and trees in the area, their uses and properties. You also know the vegetation of the place, such as the walking palm trees, whose roots change position in search of the sun; as well as the giant lupuna trees, which can measure up to 70 meters in height.
The emotions continue at sunset, for the encounter with nocturnal creatures and the search for alligators in the middle of the Tambopata River.
You arrive at the lodge for dinner and rest.
DAY 3: Lodge – Puerto Maldonado
Start this day with a very early sunrise enjoying the colorful colors of the Amazon mixed with the rising sun. After breakfast, you return by boat and land vehicle to the Puerto Maldonado Airport.
To know Amazon you must minimize the risks. Venturing out to meet him on your own can expose your life. Travel safe with Guru Explorers.
