Amazing Amazon Tour Itinerary:

DAY 1:

10:00 Iquitos – Monkey Island – Lodge

Our adventure begins with a transfer to the Bellavista Port, where we will board a motorized boat heading to the lodge, a journey that amazes with the lush greenery of the wetlands and the confluence of the Amazon and Nanay Rivers, whose waters create a striking contrast of dark tones.

You will make a stop at Monkey Island, a sanctuary and protected area for endangered species, where you can enjoy a special moment with the primates, including the Pichico, Howler, Spider, and Tocón monkeys, among others. In times when the river level is normal, the boat takes passengers to the dock on Monkey Island. When the river is low, you will have to walk 30 minutes one way to the monkey island, and 30 minutes back to the boat.

After almost an hour of navigation, you will arrive at the lodge, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch. After recharging your energy, you will embark on an afternoon excursion to explore the Amazon jungle.

You will head towards the Yanamono Reserve, on a journey of about two hours, allowing you to identify exotic flowers such as heliconias and giant trees, as well as appreciate the diverse local fauna. On the way back to the boat, you will enjoy an unparalleled sunset.

As night falls, there will be a boat ride along one of the tributaries of the Amazon River, in low light and an inhospitable environment, where you can enjoy a magnificent sky filled with stars; and if the weather permits, you may spot constellations and shooting stars.

Upon arriving at the lodge, you can rest, enjoy the pool or common areas, and finally savor a delightful dinner in this magical place.

DAY 2 :

Amazonian Community – Iquitos

After enjoying a restful night in the heart of the Amazon jungle, the boat tour begins for observing various tropical birds, followed by breakfast.

This day offers you the experience of visiting a native Amazonian community, known for their skill as hunters, the Yaguas, to discover their daily life, culture, and their hunting and fishing techniques in the midst of a majestic habitat.

Upon arriving at the lodge, you will be able to enjoy a diverse buffet lunch, followed by transfer to the Iquitos airport for departure.

Taking a tour like this allows you to have a more than natural, personal, and intimate contact. Traveling is living and reconnecting with what you love!

Price of the Tour to Iquitos includes:

• Transfer (9:00 am to 9:30 am) from the airport or from accommodations located in the city center of Iquitos to the lodge on the first day of the program. Return transfer to Iquitos on the final day of the program (1:30 pm), followed by a transfer to the airport. Transfers at different times or on days outside the program schedule will incur an additional cost. We recommend booking arrival flights no later than 9:00 am and return flights from 5:30 pm onward.
• Professional guide in English and Spanish
• 1 night of accommodation in a lodge with a pool.  Solar energy 24 hours. Rooms equipped with fan and hot water.
• Meals: 01 breakfast, 02 lunches, 01 dinner. At each meal, two options of dishes are offered with fresh and local products, which vary in each service. Vegan and vegetarian options are available with prior notice.

What to Bring to the Tour to Iquitos?

• Suitcase of a maximum of 12 kg (26.4 lbs). If you have more luggage, you can leave it at the lodge’s office in the city of Iquitos. Extra suitcase: 10 USD. We recommend not carrying unnecessary luggage.
• It is recommended to bring: comfortable footwear resistant to humidity, lightweight, quick-drying, and breathable clothing (long sleeves and earth-colored pants are recommended), swimsuits, rain gear, waterproof jacket, sweater, hat, large-brimmed cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. 
• Personal hygiene items: toothbrush, toothpaste, personal medication. 
• Passport or ID (required). 
• Travel insurance. 
• Camera (preferably with a water-resistant case). 
• Small flashlights or headlamps. 
• Binoculars. 
• Cash (local currency). 
• Portable charger, adapter for your charger. The lodge has: Electricity: 220V* 60Hz* Type A outlets.
• Reusable water bottle.

What considerations should you have when doing the Tour to Iquitos?

• Low Water Season: It is important to note that the itinerary may vary due to fluctuations in the Amazon River’s water level, which affects navigation and some activities. During the low water season (August to October), the river level gradually decreases, reaching its lowest point in September. Then, it begins to recover its level gradually, month by month. This drop in water level limits boat access to some excursion starting points, so passengers will be transferred to a nearby location and will need to walk approximately 30 minutes to reach the activity site. Please keep this information in mind when making your purchase to properly plan your experience.
• Lodge Features:

  • 26 rooms equipped with fans and cold water showers.
  • In case the river is low, it will be necessary to climb a staircase to access the lodge, as it is at ground level. The variability in the river’s height is a natural phenomenon of the region.
  • Medical Assistance: The lodge’s first aid kit is basic and can help with insect bites, indigestion, headaches, or fever. If you require professional service, medical assistance is available at the Yanamono Clinic, which is very close to the lodge. Medical services at the clinic are not included in the program prices.
• Our driver will be waiting for you at station number 5 in the baggage claim area. If the passenger arrives in Iquitos on the same day the program starts and within the established airport pickup times, the pickup service will be provided. However, if you arrive one or two days earlier, airport pickup will not be included. In that case, transfer from your hotel in Iquitos to the starting point of the program will be provided.
• To enjoy the tour, we suggest taking early morning flights to Iquitos and your return flight to Lima in the afternoon (from 5:30 pm onwards).
• The included one-way transfer from Iquitos to the Lodge by boat is only in the morning (9:30 am).
• The included return transfer from the Lodge to Iquitos by boat is at 1:30 pm.
• We offer an additional transfer service with an extra cost of $180 USD one-way, per boat.
• Check-in at the Lodge is from 1:00 pm; check-out is until 12:00 pm.
• Due to climatic conditions or natural phenomena, flight arrival/departure adjustments, there may be changes in the program.
• The activities in the itinerary are for reference and may be subject to changes depending on weather conditions.
• Guru Explorers values your time and strives to respect the tour schedules; however, they may vary due to reasons beyond our control (weather, natural disasters, field conditions, and other demonstrable reasons). We will do our best to offer efficient options and solutions for your enjoyment.
• Remember that, since these are outdoor activities, the natural features of the landscape may vary depending on weather conditions and the natural daylight. Each visit is an authentic experience, where nature reveals itself in unique and unrepeatable ways.

Not allowed:

• Pets.

• Large suitcases or bags.

• According to Peruvian regulations, foreign tourists may be exempt from the local IGV tax (VAT). As a formal and registered agency, we are required to submit to the local authorities a copy of the document you used to enter the country, as well as your date of entry. For this reason, a few days before your arrival, we will contact you to request a photo of that document and ask you to confirm the date you entered Peru. If we do not have this information, we will be required to add the corresponding 18% IGV tax. Thank you for your cooperation!
• Early hotel departure, meals or excursions not taken, reductions, or any other unused portion of the reconfirmed or paid services are non-refundable and will be considered as services rendered. We recommend that our clients have travel cancellation insurance in case of emergencies, illness, logistical issues, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Cancellation or date change policy:

• More than 30 days: the penalty is 30% of the total.
• Between 15 and 30 days: the penalty is 50% of the total.
• Less than 15 days: the penalty is 100% of the total.

Date changes:

• More than 30 days: the penalty is 10% of the total.
• Between 15 and 30 days: the penalty is 30% of the total.
• Less than 15 days: the penalty is 100% of the total.
• No refunds will be issued in the event of: delays or cancellations of flights, trains, or other transportation, bad weather, protests, roadblocks, natural disasters, or other external factors beyond the company’s control. Alternative solutions will be sought whenever possible, but any additional costs will be the responsibility of the passenger.
• Cancellation insurance: We recommend purchasing travel and cancellation insurance that covers cancellations, medical emergencies, and weather-related issues.

Force majeure policy

• Guru Explorers values your time and strives to follow the itinerary as planned. However, it may be affected by force majeure events such as weather conditions, heavy rain, natural disasters, protests, roadblocks, or other circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, no refunds or compensation will be provided, as these are unforeseeable and unavoidable situations. Nevertheless, we will do everything possible to offer alternatives and efficient solutions for your enjoyment. Any additional costs arising from changes or alternative activities will be the responsibility of the client, not Guru Explorers.
