Detailed Itinerary of the Alpaca and Llama Hiking Tour

Pickup at accommodation in Cusco (8:00 am)

The day begins with the pickup at your accommodation in Cusco at 8:00 am, especially if you are near the Plaza de Armas. Otherwise, the meeting point is the fountain at the Plaza de Armas.

Start in Cuper Bajo, Chinchero (9:00 am)

At 9:00 am, your experience will begin with a warm welcome in Cuper Bajo, Chinchero, accompanied by a comforting tea made from native plants next to the picturesque Piuray lagoon.

Hike with llamas and alpacas (duration: Approx. 3 hours)

The journey will continue with a fascinating hike of approximately 3 hours, where you will immerse yourself in rural life, spot flocks of sheep, various birds, and enjoy the natural beauty, accompanied by llamas and alpacas.

Picnic-style lunch (noon)

After the hike, you will enjoy a delicious picnic-style lunch, prepared with local organic products. This will take place at a strategically located campsite, offering majestic views of the Sacred Valley.

Eucalyptus and Queuñas Forest

After lunch, the tour will continue through a charming eucalyptus and queuñas forest, adding a natural and aromatic touch to the experience.

Chinchero Inca Archaeological Complex

According to Peruvian regulations, foreign tourists may be exempt from the local tax IGV (VAT). As a formal and registered travel agency, we are required to submit to the local authorities a copy of the document you used to enter the country, as well as your date of entry. For this reason, a few days before your arrival, we will contact you to request a photo of that document and ask you to let us know the date you entered Peru. If we do not receive this information, we will be required to add the 18% corresponding to the IGV tax.

However, it may be affected by force majeure events such as weather conditions, rain, natural disasters, protests, roadblocks, or other circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, no refunds or compensation will be provided, as these are unforeseeable and unavoidable situations. Nonetheless, we will do everything possible to offer efficient alternatives and solutions for your enjoyment. Any additional costs resulting from changes or alternative activities will be the responsibility of the client and not Guru Explorers.

Yes, you can, but they are usually grazing in their habitat during the walk.

Does it include any demonstration of traditional weaving with alpaca wool?

The weaving demonstration is available as an optional activity. If you choose to include it when booking, at the end of the tour you will visit a local family’s home to observe the traditional weaving process. If you do not select this option, the tour will end without this activity.

What is the duration of the experiential tour with llamas and alpacas, and what activities does it include?

The total duration is approximately 8 hours. The tour includes a guided walk in Piuray and a picnic lunch in a local community. Optionally, at the time of booking, you can add a visit to the Chinchero Archaeological Complex and/or a weaving demonstration by a local family.
