Taquile and Uros Full Day Tour Itinerary: Experience the Culture of Lake Titicaca

7:00 a.m. – Transfer from your hotel to the Port of Puno

The tour begins with a transfer from your hotel in the tourist area of downtown Puno to the Port of Puno, where you will board a motorboat to start the adventure. The first destination will be the Floating Islands of the Uros, located approximately 30 minutes by boat from the port. These islands, built from totora (an aquatic plant), are home to the Uro community, one of the oldest cultures in the region.

Visit to the Floating Islands of the Uros

On the floating islands, you will have the opportunity to explore the island and learn more about the life of the local inhabitants. An expert guide will share information about the history and traditions of the Uros, who live uniquely on these floating islands. After the explanation, you will have free time to walk around the island, take photos, and if you wish, interact with the local families. The visit to the islands lasts approximately 1 hour.

Continue towards Taquile Island

After the visit to the Uros Floating Islands, the tour continues towards Taquile Island, located about two hours by boat. Upon arrival, you will take a walk of approximately one and a half hours. The first part of the hike is a moderate uphill climb of about 30 minutes, followed by a flat and downhill path that takes around one hour.

During the walk, you will have the opportunity to meet a local family in their home, where you can learn about their customs and traditions, and how they keep their cultural roots alive. Additionally, you will enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by the family, allowing you to experience the authentic cuisine of the region.

It is important to mention that the island operates a family rotation system, ensuring that a different family is visited each time. This not only guarantees that all local households benefit directly from tourism but also supports the preservation of their culture and way of life. Thanks to these visits, the families of Taquile can continue to live according to their traditions, and tourism becomes a vital source for keeping their cultural heritage alive and sustaining their communities.

4:00 p.m. – 4:30 pm – Arrival in Puno

At the end of the visit and after lunch, you will return to the port of Puno by boat. On the return, we could make a brief stop at an island along the way, in case there are passengers who do not return to Puno and need to disembark there. The tour will conclude approximately around 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm at hotels near the Plaza del Centro in Puno (hotels outside the center, an additional fee applies for transfers), ending a day full of culture, history, and unforgettable landscapes on Lake Titicaca.

Note: Along the route, you’ll find charming stands where local families offer unique souvenirs. If you feel inspired to take home a souvenir, consider having some local cash on hand. However, there’s no obligation to buy—just enjoy the experience and the beautiful crafts you’ll discover!
